The core venue of ICM 2030 is the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). As Asia’s the largest and leading exhibition and convention venue in Hong Kong, it is located in Wan Chai District, Hong Kong Island, adjacent to Victoria Harbour, and is owned by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. It was completed and put into use in 1988 and has been expanded many times since then. Notably, the second phase of reclamation and expansion from 1994 to 1997 cost HKD 4.8 Billion, adding a grand auditorium and multiple large exhibition halls and other facilities; the new structure features a distinctive ffying bird design, and is connected to the original building by a 110-meter-long overpass corridor. The 30-meter-high glass curtain wall in the lobby of the grand hall offers a 180-degree harbor view. HKCEC has hosted many world-class conferences, exhibitions and cultural and entertainment activities, including the 1997 World Bank Annual Meeting, the 2005 WTO Ministerial Conference, the Hong Kong Book Fair, and Art Basel Hong Kong, and has won honors such as “Top 60 Landmarks of China” and “Asia’s Best Conference and Exhibition Centre”. The venue has a total rentable area of 91,500 square meters, featuring five independent exhibition halls with a total area of 46,000 square meters, over 50 professional meeting rooms (ranging from 38 to 8,000 square meters), and a maximum venue capacity of 8,000 people.
